Governments and large political parties

The democrats want to steal from the rich and give to the poor.

The republicans want the rich to get richer which has the unfortunate side effect of making the poor poorer.

Stealing is out of the question. You do not have the right to just take what is mine.

Living in a world where the rich take advantage of the poor isn’t illegal but still is not a great way to live. The system won’t function that way forever.

Seems to me, both ways are broken. Democrats and republicans both lose.

Governments are guaranteed to fail.
In the rich times, they wouldn’t dare give back tax money, they can’t hold on to it and save it for a rainy day (all that unspent money? just sitting there? no way)

No they just spend more and make government bigger. Then during the lean times, when there isn’t as much tax revenue, they can’t make their payments to fund this larger government they have built.

And they fail.

Sounds like you’ve turned into a libertarian.

You are idiotic to think that the Republicans (which in your world, I think, equates to conservative bc you only have 2 groups; Repulicans and Democrats) want to let the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. A conservative mindset is that any man should be able to make as much money as possible and that he should have the ability to do so. It is actually the liberal mindset that makes the poor poorer. When you give a handout to someone, you make them a slave to you. A welfare state does not give any incentive to the poor to rise up out of his state.

You ever hear the proverb: ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’? That is the same idea. Don’t bag on conservatives when it comes to the poor just because that is the soundbite you hear on NPR or ABC.

Actually my point here was it occurred to me that all governments must eventually fail. Although I can see why my argument sounds libertarian, and I certainly don’t disagree with them, the more I think about it, the less I want to affiliate with any popular following. Categorize me however you like, “idiotic” is acceptable as well as libertarian.
You can take the point of welfare state to either extreme. One gets you socialism, the other gets you a scenario where a guy down on his luck however well meaning and however hard he works gets screwed. And I know that sounds just fine until that guy is you.
And it is not true that working hard will guarantee you any kind of success, because as our system has flowered, those who know how to work the system will take advantage of those who work hard but don’t know how to.
I can point out as many recent cases as you’d like to hear.

also your argument falls down because in reality, not everybody can be rich. somebody has to be the grunt doing the lousy jobs that they can only get because they need the money and that’s the job that’s available.
While I have seen PhDs driving limos I have yet to see one cleaning toilets for minimum wage.
